After leaving university in 2015, I balanced two volunteer roles - one as an arts journalist, and one as a digital and social media professional. I was interested in working in both fields, but my keen interest in social media won out.
In 2016, I joined Edge Hill University as a Digital Marketing Officer. Although my work focused mainly on using organic social media to drive recruitment, it also saw me dabble in paid social, SEO, web content and more.
For a short period during the COVID-19 pandemic, I went freelance as a Social Media Manager. During this time, I had the opportunity to deliver social media training to organisations from the USA, France, Germany and Belgium. I also created video content and graphic to support other freelancers, ran virtual events, and developed social media strategies for organisations including Volonteurope.
In 2020, I moved to Manchester Metropolitan University to become their student-facing Social Media Manager. In this role, I specialise in using Instagram, TikTok and Facebook to communicate with current students. I also lead a group of thirty-five Student Content Creators to develop content for their fellow students.
I am a versatile Social Media Manager who can develop and publish organic content from start to finish.
My key skills include:
Proficiency with Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, X, Threads and Bluesky.
Creating content tailored towards channels, particularly Instagram Reels and TikTok videos.
Filming via both a phone and a digital camera, with experience using tools including mics, gimbals and teleprompters.
Copywriting for social media, websites, news publications and reports.
Confident use of tools including Adobe Creative Cloud, CapCut, Sprout Social and Hootsuite.
Leading and training students to develop peer-to-peer content.
